Where Claude wins
Claude's strength is sustained attention over a lot of text. If your work involves reading a forty-page document and answering questions about it, Claude tends to hold detail from the beginning of that document better, and it is less prone to confidently inventing a passage that was not there.
Its writing also reads less like a template. If you have noticed AI prose falling into the same rhythms — the triads, the "it's not just X, it's Y" — Claude drifts into that pattern less often, which matters if the output goes in front of clients.
For code, Claude is particularly good at reading a codebase you did not write and explaining what it does before changing anything.
Where ChatGPT wins
ChatGPT is the broader tool. Image generation is included, which for a lot of buyers settles the argument on its own. Custom GPTs let you save a configured assistant and reuse it, and the public store means someone has often already built the thing you need.
It is also the safer default if you are buying for someone else. More people have used it, more tutorials exist for it, and the interface assumes less.
What about Gemini?
